For the second year in a row the Boston Celtics are going up against LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals. However, both of these teams have undergone some drastic changes in the past year.
The Celtics have gotten considerably better over the last 12 months and here are five reasons why they will beat James and the Cavaliers this time around.
– THEY HAVE PLAYERS THAT CAN DEFEND LEBRON JAMES:
The Celtics are one of the few teams that have multiple players that can successfully defend LeBron James. Marcus Smart can defend him away from the basket and Marcus Morris can defend both away from the basket and in the low post. Holding James under 30 points would be considered successful and both guys are capable of doing so. James will definitely get his points but all the Celtics have to do is keep him under 30 for four games and the series is theirs. This is a talk task but this team is up for the challenge.
– THEY ARE FEARLESS:
Unlike the Toronto Raptors, the Celtics don’t fear LeBron James. They respect him enough not to take his abilities lightly but they aren’t afraid to go to battle with him. You could attribute this to their youth. The Celtics are a relatively young team that refuses to let any team strike fear in their hearts. There are also other traits that you can attribute this team’s fearlessness to…
– THEY ARE TOUGH AS NAILS:
The Celtics are perhaps the toughest team in the NBA. Every player on the roster is willing to do whatever it takes to win, even the things that don’t show up on a stat sheet. Marcus Smart locking down LeBron James ends up in the box score is in the win column. As much as they want to be want to be, the Cavaliers are not a tough team. The Celtics on the other hand are a group of players that aren’t scared to get their hands dirty and will bow out to no team. If you want to beat the Celtics you’ll have to do so both physically and statistically.
– THEY HAVE A “NEXT MAN UP” MENTALITY:
The Celtics are clearly a more complete team than the Cavaliers. If LeBron James has an off night than the odds are pretty high that you will beat the Cavaliers. However, if any one Celtics player has a bad game than there’s another player more than capable of picking up his teammate’s slack. Most teams would rather have two guys that can score 25 points on any given night as opposed to one guy that can score 50 (even if that one guy is possibly the greatest player of this generation).
– KYRIE IRVING AND GORDON HAYWARD HAVE BEEN FAKING THEIR INJURIES AND WILL RETURN TO BEAT LEBRON JAMES:
This might be the best way the Celtics can beat the Cavaliers. That is, if you rule out putting an outside lock on LeBron James’ hotel room.
All jokes aside, this should be an exciting series. An exciting series that the Celtics win in six games.
