Darrelle Revis was released by the New York Jets earlier this month, the Jets saved themselves $9 million cap space by cutting Revis, but are still on the hook for paying him $6 million dollars this season.
According to Ian Rapoport from NFL.com, Revis is willing to play for the league minimum to get himself onto a team and show what he has left.
Wow. Ian says Revis will play for the minimum this year meaning he'll essentially play for free. Changes everything. https://t.co/PZ55qbuQQ0

I can see Belichick now, “We’re going to sign Revis and the Jets are going to pay for it”
Here’s the thing about Revis, he’s 31, he’s not 38. I think he has something left in the tank. If the Patriots lose Butler, which it sounds more and more like the case, would you rather have Gilmore, Rowe and Cyrus Jones, or throw Revis into the mix?
Revis gave up on the Jets last year and looked horrible, I get that. The Patriots have signed players in the past that have been known to give up on teams, most notable Randy Moss. There’s something about players coming to New England that brings the best out of players though (hint: has something to do with those banners hanging high above Gillette).
If Revis can get himself back in shape, there’s absolutely no reason why the Patriots shouldn’t take a flyer on Revis. At the league minimum, you can bring him in, if he stinks, you cut him. It’s low risk and high reward, the type of contract that Belichick loves.
