Bill Belichick strikes again! The New England Patriots just signed cornerback Stephon Gilmore who was ranked the NFL’s 3rd top free agent overall this off season.
The #Patriots deal for free agent CB Stephon Gilmore will happen, source said. Huge signing.

The move likely spells the end for CB Logan Ryan, but Gilmore is ranked higher than Ryan according to Pro Football Focus. Huge Upgrade. Since 2013, Logan Ryan had 13 interceptions in 63 games, while Gilmore had 13 interceptions in 52 games. Gilmore was the 10th overall draft pick in 2012, has good size at 6-1, 190. Turns 27 in September. Gilmore is a big, physical man.
Gilmore gives the Patriots a shutdown-level corner back to put across from Malcolm Butler, who got the first-round tender as a restricted free agent. The former Bills first-rounder was aiming for a huge payday, the kind the Patriots don’t hand out very often. The deal is estimated to be in the $12-$14m dollar per year range according to sources, we will update this number as it becomes available.
As for Malcolm Butler, no team has signed away a first round tendered restricted free agent since 2003, per Jeff Howe. So the Patriots will basically have two number 1 cornerbacks should they retain Butler, meaning this defense will be insane.
As for Malcolm Butler, no team has signed away a first-round RFA since 2003, so no need to panic there. https://t.co/Hn2Fribf2Z

Did Bill Belichick do it again, or did Bill Belichick do it again!? I promise to never panick ever again when it comes to players being free agents on this team, because Belichick is always miles ahead of everyone else.
